Smile and Win a Kodak Digital Frame!

Kodak Its Time To SmileKodak is helping us learn to use photos and technology to make it easier to cultivate meaningful relationships with the help of Judy Weiser, a psychologist and art therapist, who has been pioneering "Photo Therapy" techniques for the past 30 years.

While many of us are spread apart by the miles, it is easier than ever to reconnect using technology. It is not just text though - photos make it better! Looking at photos gives many of us emotional support by making us smile and laugh, improving our mood, and just making us feel better overall when we are having a bad day. With digital photography we can share our images in easier ways like email, posting to photo sharing sites, posting on social networking sites, and saving to mobile devices. There is always the option to print out our digital photos as well or scan in our traditional photographs to get a digital image of them.

Judy has shared some great PhotoTherapy techniques to use photos everyday to strengthen our relationships.

  1. Create a Picture-Perfect Environment: Decorate your space with photos with strong positive memories. We have a large collection of framed photos in one corner of our living room that I love to look at and add to.

  2. Share Your World: Share your photos with people close to you, even small stuff. Taylor spent one day making some found object crafts and decided to mail one to his Great Grandma who lives out of town. I included photos of him making it with the actual item. She couldn't be here in person, but she was able to see the love, care, and concentration he put into the project in the photos.

  3. Try a Photo Pick Me Up: Find a positive photo and carry it with you. Looking at that photo can help beat the blues when you are having a rough day. I have a picture of my cat, Peaches, on my iPhone that always makes me smile!
There are lots of other great PhotoTherapy tips, as well as the comprehensive "Relationship State of the Nation" research findings available at http://www.kodak.com/go/smile or http://www.facebook.com/kodak

peg42 said what I would say. Most of my family lives 12 or more hours away (driving) and we don't see them often. I use my family photos to help my son 'know' the people (story for almost every pic)so he understands he is part of something much larger and these people love him even if he doesn't know them. I send them pics of him so they will recognize him when they see him, he is growing up so fast! Strangely, I have an almost phobia about having my own picture taken and hate the way I look in all pictures. (Tweet me at tkharmonic)

I live in Texas and my sons live in VA. I take photos and put them on my blog so the boys can see what I am doing each week. I post pictures of food I have made, in the hopes they will miss mama's home cooking, and I post pictures of the birds and others things I have seen during the week. It gives us something new to talk about and gives me a way to share my life with them even though we are so far away from each other.

There are moments to save,
I see from the corner of my eye, And I take a photo, sometimes inconspicuously,
Of time flying by....
And then I present it,
To a relative or friend,
I call them "surprises",
Sometimes they help to mend...
Relationships are like a stream
Of memories and forgotten moments,
When the little smiles, and holding hands, and pets and ordinary days...
come back to us like hugs,
It's like going to heaven...
On earth,
with photos!

Susan 6/30/09 8:23 PM

To help our 7 year old deal with a new baby, we often show him pictures of himself as a baby doing some of the same things that his new baby brother is doing.

Photos are a great way for the kids to become familiar with relatives we rarely see before we actually go visit them. It helps the kids feel like they know the people already.

My son and I look through old photo albums together. I love showing him pictures of myself and his father as kids. It helps him to realize that we really were just like him once upon a time.

Stephanie 6/30/09 9:46 PM

Our extended family lives all over the country. When our son was born, we asked each of our family members to send us a photo of themselves. We put these in a baby-safe photo album and started showing our son all the people who love him from far away!

Last year for Christmas gifts, I used old photo of my husbands family (when he and his brother and sister were kids) and made each of them a mug. They were a big hit!

I like to photoshop my family members into weird situations. Like I took a picture of my brother meeting up with the lead singer of Everclear, and turned it into him meeting and hugging barney and gave it to him as a gift one year. (That way he has two celebrity pictures to hang on his wall)

We use photos as a way to remember those in our family who have left us in life, but not in spirit. We also use photos of home (Jamaica) to remind our American-born children of their family's heritage and culture.

My grandmother is almost 94 and lives in a nursing home. She is in a wheelchair now so it is hard to get her out places. We gave her a digital photo frame for Christmas to help her still feel connected to family members that live out of state that she no longer gets to see often.

Dave 7/1/09 2:41 PM

My family and extended family are always e-mailing photos to each other. It's a way to stay involved with people who are important to us who we rarely get to see in person. Thank you for the chance to win.

Debi 7/1/09 4:23 PM

If they have an email, I try to send them pictures of any family get togethers and other pictures such as birthdays, graduations and ect.
Pictures can bring back so many great memories :-)

Photos make a great gift. We've often given my mother a framed photo of the grandchildren for Mother's Day or her birthday. We also send photos to extended family that live out-of-state; it's a great way to keep in touch when we can't see each other.

I take hundreds of pictures of my kids and family. My mother has been wanting one of these frames so she could put some of my pictures in it. I would love to win this and give it to her for her birthday in Sept. - Thanks!

Rashmi, a Mommy Reviewer 7/2/09 12:41 PM

My husband and I both have large families. Unfortunately, they live oceans away from us. Photos and emails are the only way we connect with them and we do that frequently as I want my kids to know and be a part of this. This digital frame will make a great present for their grandparents!

Pictures help my children know how very dear they are to me. Pictures are my keepsakes of them. They love to have their pictures taken and to look at their pictures. I think this makes all feel like part of the family. Pictures capture our family. Displaying pictures that I am proud of and records memories so precious to my heart.

I think photos are great because they make relatives that live far away feel like they are part of the family, and know what everyone has been up to. It makes us closer.
